To combat divisions caused by terrorist attacks, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Singaporeans should maintain a “kampung spirit”:

“Should an attack happen here, the terrorists would be aiming not just to hurt people, but to divide Singaporeans as well. That is why Singaporeans should get to know their neighbours and make friends with people from other races. Every little act counts, from holding the lift door open to offering snacks to others. The stronger our kampung spirit, the less able the terrorists will be to break us.”

Despite waxing lyrical about a kampung spirit, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong continue to enrich only himself through a S$2.1 million salary. Singapore remains far from being an egalitarian society with discrimination against Muslims officially practiced in the military.

Speaking at a Peoples’ Association (PA) grassroots event held at his constituency in Teck Ghee, the Prime Minister also said the ruling party-affiliated grassroots members island-wide will support victims of terrorist attacks.

The Prime Minister is particularly worried about the country’s unity especially the increasing political divide that surface in recent elections. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong however adopt a policy of deliberate ignorance by refusing to address his critics over inequality, legalised corruption, nepotism, the accountability of CPF funds, ministerial salaries and many contentious issues.
