5 months after the high profile corruption case of Ang Mo Kio (AMK) GRC Town Council involving its general manager who was also the managing agent contractor CPG’s employee, the town council appointed a new CPG employee as the new general manager.

State media Straits Times wrote that the general manager (GM) position of a town council is equivalent to a chief executive of the private company. As such, the town council GM is able to openly corrupt and assign contracts to his company, CPG Facilities Management. Earlier in the year, PAP MPs defended the practice claiming that the GM is merely “double-hatting” but were unable to deny the conflict of interests.

According to the government gazette on Monday (Apr 3rd), a certain Ang Boon Peng was appointed as the new GM.

There has been a media news blackout on what happened to the corruption case in the Prime Minister’s town council. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has averted all media queries and state media reporters were instructed not to question the dictator regarding his town council’s corruption case.

The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau is under the Prime Minister’s Office and hence it is impossible for Lee Hsien Loong with his unprecedented powers to be charged for corruption.
