The ruling party PAP government is making preparations ahead for the resignation of PAP MP Halimah Yacob so that she can contest the coming Presidential Election as an “independent” candidate.

According to state media TodayOnline, a new Malay candidate Kahar Hassan appeared at the Marsiling-Yew Tee constituency along with PAP MP Halimah Yacob to serve lunch to needy residents last Saturday (Apr 8).

Earlier this year, dictator Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong openly fixed the Presidential Election using his unprecedented powers and controls over the 83 PAP MPs-dominated Parliament and incumbent puppet president Tony Tan to re-write the country’s Constitution, just so he can “elect” a president of his choice. Among his conditions is a racist one that reserves the next election for the Malay race, and tightened qualification requirements where only ruling party members can qualify. One such candidate earmarked for the Presidency is PAP MP Haliamh Yacob who also serves as the current Speaker of Parliament.

However, Halimah Yacob will need to resign from her MP position in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC to qualify for presidency.  Due to the unpopularity of Lee Hsien Loong’s manipulation over the Presidential Election, a by-election in Marsiling-Yew Tee spells to risky for the ruling party. Earlier in March, Minister of State Chan Chun Sing said in Parliament that there will not be a by-election if Halimah Yacob resign because the GRC can function in her absence. During his speech, Minister Chan Chun Sing addressed Halimah Yacob as Mdm President and laughed over it with his 83 PAP compatriots in Parliament.

With the introduction of new face Kahar Hassan last week, it is hence understood that he will be the replacement MP for Haliamh Yacob – without an election. It is not understood how the ruling party PAP is going to make Kahar Hassan a MP without going through a by-election.

The Singapore government is also currently clamping down dissent and announced its intention to close down independent news sites like States Times Review, to stop Singaporeans from voicing dissent. Last week, Law Minister K Shanmugam made an unfounded allegation claiming that the site is a fake news created by foreign government to de-stabilise the Singapore society.
