New law: President’s decision can be override by Parliament

A new undemocratic law will be introduced by the ruling party PAP government that will allow the PAP-dominated Parliament to override any decision made by the President. A simple two-third majority will suffice, and is not a problem given that the PAP occupies 83 out of 89 seats.

If the PAP-appointed Council of Presidential Advisers (CPA) do not give permission, the President will not be allowed to make any veto or refuse the PAP government’s access to the national reserves – giving dictator Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong unprecedented powers.

The new law is recommended by a panel of 10 PAP MPs and will be passed on May 8. Among other recommendations include allowing Ministers who make factual errors in their speeches to amend via written answers.

PAP MP Louis Ng who was in the committee panel called for the government to give MPs more money as “budget for a parliamentary office and legislative assistants”.
