Speaking at a new citizenship award ceremony today (May 27), Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong created a fake news claiming that he manages the population growth “carefully”:
“Singapore accepts an inflow of immigrants, residents and citizens to keep population numbers steady, but must manage the inflow carefully.”
The Singapore dictator also disclosed that he turned around 20,000 foreigners into citizens, confirming public’s suspicions that these new citizens are votes to keep his ruling party in power:
“About 20,000 people become new citizens here every year, adding to about 30,000 Singaporean babies born. This 50,000 growth will allow for a stable population.”
New citizens are highly supportive of PM Lee Hsien Loong and his ruling party, because they are excused National Service liability.
PM Lee Hsien Loong also failed a fact check in his speech when he claimed that Singapore’s total fertility rate is “about 1.3”, from official statistics, Singapore’s birth rate has never touched 1.3 since 2002. United States CIA Factbook statistics showed that Singapore’s birth rate is only 8.4 baby per 1,000 person as of 2016.
Under PM Lee Hsien Loong’s leadership, Singapore’s population grow ballooned 30%, or 1.4 million in 13 years due to lax immigration policies where even masseurs and prostitutes were granted permanent residency and citizenship between 2007 and 2010. The new PAP government was profiting in hundreds of millions every year in collection of foreign labour levies alone, and an undisclosed amount in CPF contribution from new citizens.
When it comes to population planning, Lee Hsien Loong is anything but “careful” as he was solely responsible for under-planning infrastructural development, leading to persistent train breakdowns, traffic congestion, overcrowding in public transport, lack of university places, shortage of water resources and other vital public essential services. Nonetheless, Lee Hsien Loong is bent on getting a 6.9 million population.
