After being slammed by Singaporeans for having the worst train breakdown yesterday, SMRT today (June 29) covered up two train break down incidents. At about 6.40am, a signalling fault occurred at Woodlands station and at 8.20am, a train door malfunction happened at Bishan station causing peak morning delays of more than two hours. No train fault was reported today.
SMRT and Land Transport Authority (LTA) did not explain why no alert was sent out for today’s train delays. It is understood that the earlier public lashings from massive train breakdowns gave the government idea not to report train faults.
Today’s incident is however not the first time SMRT and LTA is dishonest. Last year, SMRT and LTA tried to cover up faulty train return to China. Earlier last month in May, SMRT and LTA issued fake news claiming that they were doing “system checks” when actual breakdowns happened, on four occasions. SMRT only subtly admitted that those breakdowns were “signalling faults” a few days later after States Times Review lambaste the government for lying.

Two Transport Ministers, Khaw Boon Wan and Ng Chee Meng, and SMRT CEO Desmond Kuek are all avoiding the media over the train breakdowns. The Ministers however continue to lie about rail reliability improving, just so they can set the stage to raise fares in the coming public transport fare revision.
