During today’s peak hour morning from 7.30am, commuters reported train delays stretching as far as 30 minutes with SMRT not making any official announcement. The government-owned public transport operator made its first announcement through the public address system at the stations only at 8.30am that there is no west-bound train service to the city.
It is not known whether there is any free shuttle bus services either.
As of press time, SMRT remains missing in action and did not publish any official report of the train delay on it’s official communication channel Twitter even at 9.50am. Commuters were unable to plan for their journey and queues stretching as far as 300m can be seen at Simei station.
An estimated 500,000 living in the populous eastern areas of Tampines, Simei and Pasir Ris were affected by SMRT’s train fault.
Singapore’s two million dollar salary Transport Ministers – Khaw Boon Wan and Ng Chee Meng – and two SMRT CEOs – Desmond Kuek and Lee Ling Wee – are unreachable. Today’s massive breakdown follows last week’s Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan lying that train reliability has seen “quantum improvements”.
