According to residents living in Jurong West Block 542, a lift has been down for more than three months since July 1. Residents complained to state media CNA after their PAP town council, Jurong-Clementi, did nothing over the 12 weeks.
Resident Daeng Sonny, who lives on the 4th floor, said he feels “very frustrated” from having to climb the stairs everyday:
“Coming back from work, I feel so tired, yet I still need climb up the stairs. Furthermore, I have to do this with my wife, who is pregnant.”
The resident said that the council told him the lift will only be ready by end of September. Another resident, Eka Ishak, living on the 4th floor told the state media that her elderly parents and aunty are greatly inconvenienced by the lift breakdown. Eka Ishak said the lift managed by the PAP town council breaks down every year.
When approached by media reporters, PAP Town Council for Jurong-Clementi gave an one-liner saying that they are “working on putting the lift back into operation”. No completion date was given and neither was a reason given why a repair would take so long.
