Singapore’s newest train line, Downtown Line, has broken down on the first day of opening today (Oct 15). SBS Transit reported a train fault at 1.04pm and advised that there was no train service between Bukit Panjang and Beauty World. There is no explanation on what exactly caused the disruption but services resumed only 20 minutes later.
Last month (Sep 26), the superstitious Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan hired 8 religious preachers to “bless” the new S$21 billion Downtown Line. Unfortunately, divine powers did not work in his way and the disruption still happened.
Singapore’s two transport ministers Khaw Boon Wan and Ng Chee Meng did not attend the opening of the Downtown Line today. Neither are the two ministers available for comment over the slew of train mishaps, including the flooding of the train tunnels between Bishan and Newton stations.
