A moving SMRT train has hit another stationary train at Joo Koon station today (Nov 15) injuring 25 commuters and SMRT staff. In a press release by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) at 8.18am, a west-bound train hit a stalled train at Joo Koon station.

“At 8.18am, a train heading in the direction of Tuas Link Station stalled at Joo Koon station and a minute later, a second train stopped behind the first faulty train. At 8.20am, the second train moved forward unexpectedly, and came into contact with the first train.”

State media Straits Times posted in an update that the 25 were conscious and sustained “light to moderate” injuries. The LTA said that an investigation is ongoing. SMRT did not make any announcement on the train collision incident, causing massive human traffic jam in all stations on the East-West Line.

This collision incident is unrelated to a train fault on the Circle Line this morning, also during the peak hour period.

SMRT CEOs Desmond Kuek and Lee Ling Wee are unavailable for comments. Singapore’s two Transport Ministers Khaw Boon Wan and Ng Chee Meng are also silent on the train collision incident.
