At the introduction of the PAP ‘suicide’ team at Aljunied GRC, Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam explicitly indicated that the PAP candidates chosen are yes-men who “advance the national agenda”. What is implicitly left out is that national agenda includes a 6.9 million population, increasing retirement age, allowing SMRT and SBS to profit from fare hike and a slew of existing government policies which have caused a myriad of social and economical problems for Singaporeans.
“The People’s Action Party candidates for Aljunied GRC have been chosen to tackle local issues, town council finances, and advance the national agenda.”
Minister Tharman also claimed that his PAP candidates are honest and dedicated without base or citing evidence that indicated so. The PAP team for Aljunied GRC is the only GRC team that does not have an anchor minister, which is a clear signal that the PAP is not sincere serving Aljunied residents.
Among the PAP team is retiring MP Yeo Guat Kwang who was exposed to hold 64 different directorships aside from his duty as a MP which he does only part-time. The former Ang Mo Kio GRC MP has never contested by himself in a single member constituency and has always been in the same team as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
