After getting open support from fellow Workers’ Party heavyweight MPs like Daniel Goh, Leon Perera and Dennis Tan, WP MP Pritam Singh will likely be voted the next secretary general of the Singapore’s leading Opposition party. Dr Daniel Goh wrote on his Facebook page praising MP Pritam Singh as a “humble servant-leader who knows his own flaws, works closely with the party grassroots and exhorts them to unite for the common good of Singapore and Singaporeans”.
The Workers’ Party is Singapore’s currently leading Opposition Party and also possess the highest chances of wrestling government majority from the corrupted ruling party. If General Election 2020 see WP winning key GRCs like Ang Mo Kio GRC and Tanjong Pagar – effectively kicking out Lee Hsien Loong and his successor Chan Chun Sing, and several other GRCs to win majority MP seats, the WP will form Singapore’s first democratic government with their sect gen Pritam Singh as Prime Minister.
Singapore’s Prime Minister’s position has been largely occupied by a typical Chinese man, with two of them being father and son. Foreign countries poignantly point out that Singapore is a dictatorship under the Lee, which is a fair assessment considering that Lee Kuan Yew ruled the country for 35 years while his son Lee Hsien Loong is the incumbent PM who has been in power for the past 14 years – longer than seat warmer PM Goh Chok Tong’s 13 years. To worsen the apparent racism in play, Minister of State Chan Chun Sing and his fellow potential candidates – Heng Swee Keat and Ong Ye Kung – are all Chinese men.
Pritam Singh is hence Singapore’s best hope to have a non-Chinese Prime Minister.
In 2017, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong re-wrote the Constitution and held the world’s first racist Presidential election. The dictator claimed that the Malay minority in Singapore are unhappy with the lack of a Malay President. Lee Hsien Loong made his Indian candidate Halimah Yacob to convert her race to Malay, and helped her win the election by disqualifying her two other authentic Malay contestants.
Like a habitual liar, PM Lee did not explain why the minorities in Singapore would not hope to see a non-Chinese PM. Many Singaporeans have been calling for PM Lee Hsien Loong to resign due to his incompetency, especially in his mismanagement of public transport, CPF retirement, income inequality and a myriad of social problems. The powerful PM however recently indicated that he “need more time”, despite urging even from within the ruling party.
