Japanese Albirex Niigata has secured its third Singapore’s local soccer league – three months and six games ahead. With a 19-point lead, the Japanese could field reserve players, lose in every single game and still win the title.
Albirex Niigata won their last 17 games and managed a draw on its last game against Balestier Khalsa. The head coach of Albirex is however furious over the draw despite winning the title:
“We set out to win every game and today we did not win, so we did not achieve what we wanted to do. We only needed a draw to be champions, but we couldn’t get the win so there is some regrets… There is a lack of precision in the match for our failure to win. “
Like its mainstream media, Singapore’s football is ranked 173rd in the world by FIFA. The Singapore football association is headed by PAP MP Edwin Tong, after former PAP MP Zainudin Nordin was arrested for corruption.
