According to the latest crime statistics from the Singapore Police, the number of reported molest cases spiked up 21.5% in the first half of 2018. Molest offences taking place at public transport jumped 43.8% while nightspots like bars and clubs saw a 37% increase. The authorities did not give a breakdown on the nationality, age and profile of the molesters.
Singapore has also become increasingly unsafe, with crime rate rising by 3.2% in just half a year. In the six months of the year, scammers from China impersonating as “Chinese officials” successfully cheated a total of S$6 million from 182 victims who are mostly China nationals. Loan scams also jumped by 92.6% with a total of S$730,000 stolen from over 364 victims. The Singapore Police did not reveal if they would take actions against scammers based in overseas.
