A Singapore permanent resident from India has been fired from Singapore bank DBS after he posted a photo of a ripped Singapore flag to express his loyalty to his homeland. According to a press release by DBS, Avijit Das Patnaik was dismissed after a decision by an internal disciplinary committee. As DBS gave no details about his departure, is unknown if Avijit was compensated with a severance package.
The Indian national had earlier posted on Facebook the offending photo, which led to police reports being made over the vandalism of the Singapore national flag. The Singapore Police however were silent on the outcome of their investigations, and the Singapore PR is still walking free and holding on to his permanent residence today.
According to state media Straits Times, the PR has been living in Singapore for over ten years and when interviewed, Avijit said that he “love Singapore very very much”. About two weeks after his offending image went viral, the Indian national put up a video of himself and his daughter saying they “love Singapore”.
