The Lee Hsien Loong dictatorship has been incompetent, and very expensive considering the numerous tax raises. It is understandable that Singaporeans are now looking for a new government to replace the PAP government, and the only way to do it is to vote for the Opposition. Voting for the Opposition is however unpalatable to most people, including myself, as many are substandard and no more worthy than a PAP MP.
As Singapore approaches its next General election, faceless and anonymous opportunists are joining in the opposition parties hoping to ride on the wave of anti-PAP sentiments and grab a S$15,000-a-month seat in Parliament. These opportunists however must be avoided, even as Singaporeans seek to remove the cancerous PAP.
There are the clown parties who do literally nothing in the four-year space between elections:
1) Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA)
2) National Solidarity Party (NSP)
3) People’s Power Party (PPP)
4) Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)
5) Reform Party (RP)
Then there are the few “opposition veterans” who appear every election but absolutely unfit for office:
1) SDA – Desmond Lim Bak Chuan
2) Former WP, former NSP, current PPP – Goh Meng Seng
3) DPP – Benjamin Pwee
4) Former NSP – Nicole Seah
5) Reform Party- Kenneth Jeyaretnam
6) Zeng Guo Yuan
None of the above knows what they are doing, and they participate in the general election like on a 4D lottery mindset. Their presence is in Singapore’s political scene is a nuisance, and disrupts other serious-minded politicians and valuable talents from contesting in their “turfs”. Every election, the above opposition parties threatens to split the votes by going into three-corner fights. The threat has however proven to be unsubstantiated as proven from the loss of electoral deposit for some like Kenneth Jeyaretnam in the 2013 Punggol East by-election.
These opposition opportunists are as good as useless, and you hear absolutely nothing from them on major government policies and current affairs like GST increase, water price increase and the HDB lease issue. Some like Goh Meng Seng are literally toxic as they attack other opposition parties for no compelling reason.
So who should you vote for then? Until I personally contest the election, your bet should be safe with WP and SDP. They are not ideal, I have my fair share of criticisms against the two but they are Singaporeans’ better options when compared to the white party engaging in legalised corruptions.
The General Election is coming next year and it is important Singaporeans know who they are voting for. This coming GE is also the most unique thus far as the ruling party is now seeing its lowest support level than ever, no thanks to its own policies and the rise of States Times Review.
