In an update on the 30,000 China workers to enter Singapore, Manpower Minister Josephine Teo revealed that 600 China workers are already in the country and she is working hard to more in:

“Around 600 work pass holders who travelled to China have been given the go-ahead to enter Singapore. We have approved about 200 applications a day since new entry rules for these workers kicked in after 11.59pm on Saturday.”

The Manpower Ministry also added that the approval needs only 3 days and that these China workers merely need to self-quarantine themselves once they landed in Singapore:

“All work pass holders with travel history to mainland China in the last 14 days need to get its approval three days before their planned entry into Singapore… Employers will need to arrange for suitable housing for returning workers to serve the mandatory 14-day leave of absence (LOA), and the need to stagger the entry of workers to “manage their return in an orderly manner.”

Each China worker will also get S$100 a day for 14 days, fully paid for by the Singapore government.

Last Sunday (Feb 9), four work permit holders and two foreigners holding Singapore permanent residency – all from China – were caught breaching the mandatory 14 days self-quarantine, Leave of Absence, by the Health Ministry.

The Wuhan virus outbreak is now out of control in Singapore, with sporadic random infections picked up all over the country each day. The Singapore government was unable to trace the source of any of the infected.

7 countries including China and South Korea has since banned travel to Singapore, citing lack of confidence in the Singapore government’s public health measures.

The Singapore government is also the only one telling the public not to wear a mask.
