Despite claims by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong a day earlier about “situation under control”, Singapore reported its 200th confirmed case yesterday (Mar 13).
A total of 13 new cases were found, all being locally transmitted. Authorities claimed that nine are imported, but all of them stayed in Singapore for at least two weeks before being tested.
Local transmission is out of control, with random strangers being hit by the virus. The Ministry of Health refused to acknowledge the severity of local infections, and no social distancing has been implemented yet. Schools remain open and unnecessary events are still allowed to carry on.
11 cases are now in critical conditions, but Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong claimed in his speech that the coronavirus is “mild” and that those infected need only stay at home. The Prime Minister made a special appearance on Thursday (Mar 12) after 5 weeks of absence. No new announcement was made, despite public appeals for financial assistance in the recession.
