Punggol East SMC was almost lost to the Workers’ Party in the 2015 General Election, with PAP MP Charles Chong winning by only a 1.76% margin.
It has now since been dissolved by the corrupted Elections Department under control of the Prime Minister’s Office. The constituents have been absorbed by Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.
Another weak PAP constituency, FengShan SMC, which the ruling party won by 7.52% has also been demolished. It has since been absorbed into East Coast GRC.
The gerrymandering will save the PAP two MP seats, as believed.
There is also an increase from 89 MPs to 93 MPs, with 3 more five-MP GRCs created. GRC is a key strategy the ruling party dictatorship keeps itself in power, and this system is a cheat according to established democratic principles. Candidates who are not the choice of any constituency will be elected as long they win as a “group” it is a part of.
Lee Hsien Loong has in the past two decades came out with underhanded tactics to win the election, including a media ban on all non-government state media on polling day. The world’s highest-paid politician also carries the right to sue any opposition candidate for defamation after the elections.
