Barely a day after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong declared “situation under control”, Singapore saw the coronavirus claim the third death yesterday. The number of infected continued to surge, with 42 new cases reported, bringing the total to 844.

A 70-year-old Singaporean was infected from unknown local transmission in Singapore. Chung Ah Lay visited the GP doctors three times before he was finally admitted for testing. He died after spending 27 days in the intensive care unit. The Singapore government tried to play down the fatality by blaming the deceased’s medical history:

“He tested positive for the infection on March 2 at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). After developing serious complications, he died after 27 days in the intensive care unit. He had a history of hypertension and hyperlipidaemia.”

The number of unknown infections continued to rise in Singapore, with over 150 being reported to date. A new cluster at a bridal shop in Yishun (Wedding Brocade bridal shop, 1 Yishun Industrial Street 1) was identified with 3 new infected. The new cluster identified two days ago at Eunos SingPost Centre also saw 5 new infected.
