Another foreign worker dormitory cluster found, over 7,000 risk infection

Barely a day after local transmission were found at a foreign worker dormitory cluster in Seletar, Singapore saw another dorm infected at Jurong East.

The 7,800 capacity dormitory, Westlite Toh Guan, saw a total of 5 infections identified in their initial testing. The Ministry of Health refused to reveal more information, but numerous close contacts are now under quarantine or testing.

The Seletar dormitory, PPT Lodge 1B, also saw 3 new infections yesterday, after 4 confirmations. The foreign worker community infection raised serious public concerns as foreign workers are housed in overcrowded and unhygienic living quarters.

The number of local unlinked cases also reached a new peak of 18 yesterday, with 47 newly confirmed. There have been a surge in number of new local clusters in the past two weeks, including a bridal shop, gym, churches, national post office SingPost and the two foreign worker dormitory.

Local university NUS also reported that 14 students who returned from overseas are confirmed infected.
