A day after the Singapore government reported 287 cases in a day, Singaporeans head out to stockpile essential goods. The fear of supply shortage is compounded further after Malaysia announced the extension of lockdown to April 28.

Queues stretching 100m long were seen at shopping centers, and social distancing is not being observed according to state media reporters from Straits Times:

“Shoppers The Straits Times spoke to said it was sometimes difficult to keep 1m from others due to the limited space, and said they have had to do their grocery shopping more frequently, as they have been cooking more while at home.”

A customer at Serangoon Central wet market said that the government social distancing method is impractical:

“It’s not that we don’t want to stand further apart, but the shop owners only have that much space in front of their counters.”
