28 year old Filipino Ello Ed Mundsel Bello, a former nurse with Tan Tock Seng Hospital, has been sentenced to 4 months jail today (Sep 21) for making anti-Singaporean comments on Facebook.
In his Facebook post, he wrote that Singaporeans are “loosers (sic) in their own country”, “We (Filipinos) take their jobs, their future, their women, and soon, we will evict all SG loosers out of their own country” and “Singapore would be the new Filipino state.” In several other posts, he wrote equally inflammatory comments aimed at attacking Singaporeans: “REMEMBER PINOY BETTER AND STRONGER THAN STINKAPOREANS.” and “praying that disastors (sic) strike Singapore and more Singaporeans will die.”
Ello lied to his employer Tan Tock Seng Hospital that his account was hacked, and the Singapore hospital was kind enough to put him on admin duties. The Filipino also lied to the Singapore police saying his account was hacked and he did not make the comments. Eventually, he confessed to the police and he was eventually sacked by Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The Filipino was charged for one count of promoting feelings of ill-will and hostility and two counts of providing false information to the police. An additional count under the Sedition Act and a count of lying to the police was taken into account for his 4 month’s sentence. In summary, 5 counts of charges were sentenced to Ello Ed.
Do you think 4 month jail sentence is too light for this 5 charges?
