Malaysian Pasu Pathy Sangaran, 20, has been jailed for 6 months yesterday (Sep 23) for theft, criminal breach of trust and assault against his mentally-challenged ex-girlfriend. In December 2015, Pasu Pathy went to the mentally-challenged woman’s house and persuaded her to pass him two gold necklaces and gold bracelets, which he later pawned a day later for S$11,250 without the woman’s permission. Pasu Pathy also took her employment pass and used her identity as the guarantor for the pawn.

Three days later, Pasu Pathy went to the woman’s house again and asked for more jewelleries. When he told her he will pawn it, she refused to let him have the jewelleries and Pasu Pathy slapped her on the face. Pasu Pathy then stole them and pawned the stash for S$4,000. The offences were only discovered on Jan 8 this year after the woman’s mother returned from overseas and found the jewelleries missing.

Pasu Pathy has since left for Malaysia and he was arrested when he tried to enter Singapore again in February at Woodlands Checkpoint.

The Institute of Mental Health presented a report confirming that the woman has only an IQ of 58 and the Deputy Public Prosecutor charged that Pasu Pathy had taken advantage of her vulnerability. Pasu Pathy was eventually sentenced to 6 months jail.
