15 year old terrorist, Farad Jabar Khalil Mohammad, of Iraq-Kurdish background fatally shot a 58 year old accountant, Curtis Cheng, at the back of his head outside the Police Headquarters in Parramatta, Sydney this afternoon (Oct 3). After exchanging fire with 3 police officers, the terrorist was shot dead.

The victim Curtis Cheng is of Hongkong background and has worked over 17 years for the New South Wales Police. He was leaving work before he was killed. According to witnesses interviewed by Fairfax, the gunman in a black gown was shouting “religion slogans” before executing Curtis Cheng and then waving his handgun in the air.

According to ABC news, a senior police source told the media that Farad went to a mosque shortly before the shooting outside the NSW police headquarters, and that Farad does not know Curtis Cheng. The NSW police commissioner, Andrew Scipione, confirmed that the attack was political and linked to terrorism. Police has raided Farad’s North Parramatta home and confiscated his computer.

The Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull expressed regrets over the incident but urged everyone not to vilify the Muslim community:

“We must not vilify the Muslim community for the actions of a very small percentage of violent extremist individuals”
