Pastor Kong Hee from City Harvest Church has been sentenced to 8 years jail today (Nov 20) for criminal breach of trust and falsification of accounts to fund his wife’s doomed singing career.
His five other accomplices get the following sentence:
- Former finance manager Serina Wee, 5 years jail
- Board member Chew Eng Han, 6 years jail
- Former finance manager Sharon Tan, 21 months jail
- Senior Pastor Tan Ye Peng, 5 years and 6 months jail
- Former secretary of church management John Lam, 4 years jail
All six are appealing their sentencing and have been granted bail for the time being with their sentencing deferred.
The judge found Kong Hee the most culpable as he was the mastermind behind the design of the sham bonds to finance the doomed singing career of his wife, Sun Ho. Sun Ho is currently a pastor of City Harvest Church and have given up on her singing dream following terrible losses incurred from the sales of her songs featuring a half-naked “geisha”, which she claimed was for spreading the christian gospel.
Pastor Kong Hee is a charismatic speaker who often preach the “money gospel” to his City Harvest Church followers, telling them to donate tithes to “god” for his church and personal expenses. He was earlier revealed in court to have spent:
-More than S$300,000 on travel
-More than S$100,000 on food
-About S$100,000 on Sun Ho’s hair and make-up
-Total spending by Kong Hee is about S$600,000
-Total spending by Sun Ho is about S$3 million
However, despite being exposed to be cheating church funds, 173 executive members of City Harvest Church pleaded for leniency for Pastor Kong Hee.
