China-born Singaporean get 3 years’ probation for poisoning Stanford classmates

A China-born Singaporean who was on the government AStar scholarship has been sentenced to 3 years’ probation in United States for poisoning the drinking water of her two classmates in Stanford university.

Ouyang Xiangyu, 27, admitted that she putting paraformaldehyde in the water bottles of the two Stanford students Sep and Nov 2014. The victims suffered burning sensation in their throats and the police was called in. The Singaporean was later arrested on Nov 17, but Ouyang Xiangyu denied having any personal issues and even claimed she didn’t meant to harm anyone.

The former Temasek Junior College student has since been expelled from Stanford after been found to have sabotaged another lab mate’s experiment in mid-August 2014. She was sentenced to 3 years’ probation and 176 days of community service for 5 days a week.
