According to the latest graduate survey conducted by the Ministry of Education, 42% of the fresh grads holding foreign degree are unable to find full-time employment in Singapore within 6 months.
Out of the 42%, only half (21%) found part-time work or contract jobs while continuing to seek full-time employment in the first six months.
This unemployment figure is less than half the 83% full-time employment figure of fresh grads from government universities like NTU, NUS and SMU.
The finding contradicts the Singapore government’s claim that there are plenty of jobs. Earlier in Oct, Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say criticise fresh grads for being “picky” at jobs.
Minister Lim Swee Say talk down on fresh grads: You are too picky
The only performing schools offering foreign degrees is Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), where 75.4% of its graduates found full-time jobs within 6 months of graduation.
Most Singaporean look to foreign degrees as the places for government universities are restricted with 20% reserved for only foreigners.
