Due to constant disagreements with the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) management headed by former PAP MP Ellen Lee, China-born Singaporean table tennis player Feng Tian Wei’s contract will no longer be renewed when it ends this month.

The 30-year-old 3-time-Olympic-medalist was not offered any role after the “restructuring plan” by STTA. However, Feng Tian Wei did not win a single medal in the recent Olympic in Brazil.

Former PAP MP Ellen Lee said in a public statement: “She does not fit into the STTA’s current plans for rejuvenation. This is an opportune time to rejuvenate and refresh our teams to be future ready. We would like to thank her for all that she has done for Singapore table tennis, and we would like to take this opportunity to wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

Earlier last month in September, Feng Tian Wei and her teammate Yu Meng Yu argued with the powerful PAP-backed STTA management and told them they want to be independently managed.

Unable to communicate in English, Feng Tian Wei yesterday (Oct 25) posted on Facebook in Chinese saying that she will continue to compete in international competitions “using a different method”:

大家晚上好,相信大家看了今天的报道,我想我会继续参加国际比赛的,只是方式会有一些改变,几天后我会跟大家和媒体朋友们公布今后发展规划和参赛情况,谢谢大家的关注,让朋友们担心了,请放心我不会离开国际赛场的!

Her Facebook admin posted the following literal translation:

“The response from Tianwei: I believe most of you have read the report today, I will continue to compete in international competition and represent Singapore using another method. I will share my plan with the media and the public in a few day time. Thank you everyone for your concern, I will not leave the international scene!”
