Passengers on the Circle Line were left frustrated and confused when their mobile network were cut off without any notification from SMRT or their telecom companies last evening (Nov 3).
Multiple complains were made to telco companies as most thought the problem is a mobile service disruption.
Mobile network services of all 30 stations along Circle Line were shut down for two hours during the peak hours from about 8pm. Telcos like Singtel, Starhub and M1 were instructed by SMRT to shut down their signal repeaters because the latter suspect an interference signal disrupted the train signalling system.
Despite the massive inconvenience caused to commuters last evening, SMRT was still unable to pinpoint the problem.
LATEST: Train signalling system broke down again this morning during the peak hours – additional report by States Times Review below
According to SMRT, the train signalling system broke down this morning peak hours (Nov 4) because the “mysterious” interference signal was detected again. Mobile network has been shut down from 7.15am and will resume only around 9am.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has not made any response pertaining to the repeated fault of the train signalling system. Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan has been evading media appearance over the embarrassing breakdowns.
Both LTA and SMRT are refusing to acknowledge that the repeated train breakdown issues in Singapore is due to overcrowding, because the Prime Minister is unhappy to see any opposition to his 6.9 million population target.
