From Oct 1 onwards, all Singapore-registered private vehicles, except public buses, taxis, motorcycles and government vehicles, will have to pay a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fee of RM20 (S$7) to enter Malaysia, announced the Malaysia Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Aziz. In addition to the increase in toll charges, from September 1, all Singapore vehicles which are not registered with the Malaysia’s road authority, JPJ, would be refused entry. The VEP can only be paid via a Touch ‘n Go card and no cash is allowed.

Singapore vehicles will have to register online from August 15 and it applies to all Singapore vehicles including public buses, taxis, commercial goods vehicles and Singapore government diplomatic cars. They are also required to pay RM10 (S$3.50) for the road charge every 5 years.

Malaysia is implementing the new VEP in response to the Singapore Government’s Land Transport Authority increased the Causeway toll by more than 300% to S$3.80.
