Track fault right after Minister Khaw Boon Wan declare speed increase

Barely 3 days after Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan declared that the speed of trains along the East-West Line (EWL) will be increased, the EWL saw a paralysing track fault between Clementi station and Joo Koon station today (Jan 23) during the peak hour evening.

According to SMRT’s Twitter, the track fault caused train delays from 7.30pm to to 10.18pm. Although SMRT advised an additional travel time of 25 minute a, passengers complained that travel time stretched as far as 40 minutes.

On Friday (Jan 20), sleeper replacement works on the track was officially completed and there should not be any track fault.

There is no explanation from SMRT how is today’s track fault unrelated to the completion of track works. This is the second track on the EWL after the first on Thursday (Jan 19) during the peak hour morning.

Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan is now in a media blackout, averting comments on the series of train break down cases.
