The grandson of the founder of Singapore’s local mega retail store Metro told police investigators that he smoked weed everyday. According to the court hearing held on Friday (Feb 3), 41-year-old Ong Jenn was arrested on 31 Oct 2014, when he was to meet a drug trafficker for S$2,000 worth of weed (cannabis).

The drug trafficker, Mohamad Ismail, was sentenced to 22 years in jail and 18 strokes of cane on 16 Sep 2015. However, the rich man’s trial was delayed for close to 3 years until today. Represented by a senior counsel lawyer from prestigious law firm Wong Partnership, Ong Jenn said that he did not engage in drug trafficking and that he only used the weed for personal consumption.

Ong Jenn is facing a jail sentence between 5 to 20 years and 5 to 15 strokes of cane for smoking weed.

Cannabis is mainly legalised for medical use in Australia and America, but some countries like Spain and Netherlands legalised the drug for personal consumption.
