Singapore’s only opposition party Workers’ Party (WP) is now officially in trouble after dictator Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong appointed former PAP MP Hri Kumar as the Deputy Attorney General.
The political move is to fix the opposition WP and its town council, and seen as a move to criminalise the opposition party by making them face corruption charges. The present team of Attorney General has earlier cleared the WP of any wrongdoing, much to the displeasure of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. However, with the new appointment of Hri Kumar, the former vocal critic of the WP will turn the table and criminalise the WP.
The WP MPs may lose their seats if convicted.
Under directive of PM Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister Office (PMO) also introduced a new Judge of Appeal member. This move follows the recent high profile of the 3-member Judge of Appeal which ruled that the Singapore government is not protected by the newly-enacted harassment act.

The new Judge of Appeal member, Judge Steven Chong Horng Siong, was the former Attorney-General from 2012 to 2014, who worked closely under the Prime Minister.
