Singapore graduates in fewer demand, engineer grads worst

Despite having their schools ranked highly in annual university rankings, Singapore graduates are in fewer demand in 2016.

The latest graduate survey conducted in 2016 found that 18.8% of the graduates from the three government universities – Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU) and National University of Singapore (NUS) – are unable to find a full time job and their starting salaries increased by only a mere S$60 to S$3,360.

NUS ranks 12th, while NTU ranks 13th in the QS World University Ranking 2015/2016.

10,904 of the 13,953 fresh graduates from the three universities were polled last year (2016). NTU graduates are the lowest paid among the three, with a mean monthly gross salaries of S$3,424, as compared to NUS’s S$3,541 and SMU’s S$3,722. The salaries also highlighted that engineering graduates are not in demand and hence lower-paid as compared to SMU which offers only business, finance, law and non-engineering courses.
