Despite screwing up the switching over to the new signalling system last evening (Mar 28), SMRT openly lied to the public claiming that the switch over was successful.
2 hours before the planned delay, trains running along the North-South Line (NSL) were seeing delays continuously of more than two hours and only resolved by 10.20pm. The switch over was postponed 15 minutes later from 11pm to 11.15pm, and train service stopped for eight minutes during the switch over.
Elsewhere, the Bukit Panjang LRT system broke down for an hour and commuters in stuck train carriages had to walk dangerously on the train track to get to the next stations.
Although SMRT claimed that the switch over was “successful”, they now announced that they have to conduct a similar “switch over” on Thursday (Mar 30). There is no explanation given why a second switch over is required.
There is no press release from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan, who was absent from the much-lauded new signalling system.
