82 PAP MPs broke out in laughter today (Oct 3) over Minister Chee Hong Tat’s answer to a trivial question posted in the PAP-dominated Parliament. The joke of the corrupted dictatorship started with PAP MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC Chong Kee Hiong asking the Senior Minister of State for Health, Chee Hong Tat, why healthier food is more expensive.

Many MPs were amused by the question and the PAP Minister answered the primary school level question matter-of-factly saying demand is lower as compared to the “less healthy” and more popular ones hence the higher price. PAP MP Chong Kee Hiong then started his “clarification”:

“I am referring to two variations of the same brand of kaya. The low sugar option costs S$1 more.”

Minister Chee Hong Tat then grinned in his reply saying:

“I do not know which brand of kaya he’s referring to. I myself like kaya, but because it is quite sweet, I try not to eat too much of it.”

All PAP MPs paid S$192,000 a year including million dollar ministers started laughing loudly except for the stoic-faced opposition MPs from the Workers’ Party.

Minister Chee Hong Tat continued his joke in the Parliament and started giving a talk on cooking methods:

“When we spread the kaya on the bread, don’t spread it so thickly. That will be one way of helping to lower the amount of sugar you consume. On preparation, if you steam it compared to deep frying it; if you use less oil, salt, sugar and sauces. All these are steps which we can then to prepare healthier food options.”

All PAP MPs paid S$192,000 a year including million dollar ministers started chuckling loudly, with Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan Jin joining in:

“Given the SMS’ passion for healthy food, the least we could do is to take heed of his advice during the tea break later.”
