ACRA: Sorry we do not check company registrations

Statutory board Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) was forced to apologise to on state media Straits Times forum after confirming that they do not check the addresses of companies registered.

ACRA’s apology came after a medical doctor from elite hospital Glenn Eagles, complained about receiving company letters which wrongfully registered it’s company on her home address. ACRA reasoned that they do not check addresses because “95%” are correct:

“We should have handled Dr Loh’s complaint more promptly and have learnt from this incident. Dr Loh expressed concern that no documentary proof is required when companies register with us or when they update their information. Currently, this is the case because more than 95 per cent of them provide correct addresses.”
