Former Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say affirmed Singaporeans that there are no problems with the number of foreigners in Singapore today and that the “Singaporean core” is still steady and stable.
At his lunchtime rally speech this afternnon (Sep 9), Lim Swee Say believe that the present employment environment in Singapore has a “steady Singaporean core”.
“Our Singaporean core is holding steady in our workforce. The ratio of local workers to foreign manpower today stays stable at two to one. Two-third local manpower, one-third foreign manpower. Exclude construction, which is the sector of least interests to Singaporeans, the ratio is actually three-to-one, three-quarter local manpower to one-quarter foreigner.”

The candidate for East Coast GRC said that the ruling party government has done a lot trying to strengthen the “Singaporean core” but did not comment on whether if Singapore will continue taking in more foreigners to achieve the 6.9 million population target.
